Yes, there is a new George Benson CD just released.

However, the music is not new; rather, it dates from 1989. When you hear it though, you won't be able to tell that it is that old. It has been processed and cleaned up, and the superb arrangements of  master arranger Robert Farnon shine through very cleanly and clearly, as does the great tone that Benson achieves on his Ibanez guitar. 

This release brings Mr. Benson back to the Warner Brothers label, where he recorded his big crossover hit, Breezin', back in 1976.

The story goes that Mr. Benson asked Quincy Jones who was the best arranger in the world. The reply: Robert Farnon. So they made contact and then agreed to put together this CD, featuring Mr. Farnon's orchestra to back the guitar and voice of Mr. Benson.

I think when you hear the lush strings you will agree that the arrangements are fantastic. I am surprised to have never heard of Robert Farnon, but now I will look for his work.

The Sunday Jazz Brunch Presents Gabriel Espinosa: From Yucatán to Tarrytown Air Date: 7/7/2024 on 90.5 WICN 8am-12pm ET I'm impressed with the lineup of artists appearing at Mark Morganelli's Jazz Forum in Tarrytown, New York. Four or five names pop up on Wikipedia, mostly violin players who also happen to occasionally play viola.
