Jacqui Naylor is an artist with wide-ranging and eclectic influences -- for example: Billie Holiday, June Christy, Nina Simone, Tracy Chapman, Natalie Merchant, Carole King, and Sheryl Crow. How's that for a list?

She slips easily from jazz to folk rock to adult alternative. To be honest I only know anything about the first item in this list, and I can say that as a jazz singer she is an original and quite good.And I really like the other material as well!

Her latest album, Treasures of the Heart, is her twelfth. It includes four well-know jazz and pop tunes, plus ten original compositions written with her husband and collaborator, Art Khu.

Ms. Naylor is a Buddhist, and took the album title from The Three Kinds of Treasure, a letter written in 1277 by Nichiren, a Japanese Buddhist monk and scholar. She will talk about the title track and one other during her Musician's Corner segment. 

This CD has quite a few very good songs, which I have been playing during the last few weeks. Don't miss this opportunity to hear this artist speak about her latest work.

The Sunday Jazz Brunch Presents Gabriel Espinosa: From Yucatán to Tarrytown Air Date: 7/7/2024 on 90.5 WICN 8am-12pm ET I'm impressed with the lineup of artists appearing at Mark Morganelli's Jazz Forum in Tarrytown, New York. Recently Gabriel Espinosa performed with his superb band. In the photo above, we see Mr. Espinosa feeling the bass, with drummer Graciliano Zambonin reacting to the groove of the moment.
