The Sunday Jazz Brunch Presents Gabriel Espinosa: From Yucatán to Tarrytown Air Date: 7/7/2024 on 90.5 WICN 8am-12pm ET I'm impressed with the lineup of artists appearing at Mark Morganelli's Jazz Forum in Tarrytown, New York. Recently Gabriel Espinosa performed with his superb band. In the photo above, we see Mr. Espinosa feeling the bass, with drummer Graciliano Zambonin reacting to the groove of the moment. Misha Tsiganov Also featured in the group was the very talented Misha Tsiganov on piano, as well as Aviana Gedler vocals and violin, and Alexandra Ridout trumpet and flugelhorn. Aviana Gedler Alexandra Ridout Not only was the music simply great to listen and groove to, but Mr. Espinosa's talk about the songs made it very interesting. There was music from Brazil, as well as music from Mr. Espinosa's home, Yucatán Mexico. I suppose it is obvious, but just to be clear, my list represents the best from this group , and excludes CDs that we didn't receive, of which I am sure there are many. You might like to take a look at a prior 'best of' show where I laid out my philosophy (if I may use so grand a term!) behind this list.  Don't miss this show. Four or five names pop up on Wikipedia, mostly violin players who also happen to occasionally play viola. Add to this, over the many thousands of CDs I have listened to during my tenure at WICN, I do not recall ever coming across a jazz viola player.  Until now.
